Our Senior football squad played 2 full-scale practice match’s yesterday against Wodonga Raiders at Ballarat High School. In tough windy conditions, both teams put on a fast, skilful performance.
Coaching from the sidelines, Ballarat Football Club’s Shane Hutchinson was happy with the hit out across both games.
It was our first opportunity to practice our set ups against real quality opposition. We were happy with the hit out today. We saw some very promising signs from our younger players, and confirmation that our recruits have added additional experience and strength to the team. There were up to a dozen players unavailable today who are in contention for round 1 selection, so it augurs well for the depth of our squad in 2018. We also got through the day with no major injuries which is a bonus.
Reigning Greenfield Trophy winner, Daniel Kennedy had a consistent day, whilst new recruits Keegan Mellington & Mitchell Bowman, showed they will add value to the team.
Carter Prendergast & Matt Brehaut played well after putting in solid summer pre-seasons and officially moving out of our Under18 program.
Another positive sign for the club was seeing Chris Prockter & Hayden Hughes back wearing the Red & White. Both players will add depth, strength and height to our senior squads forward line options in 2018. Mitch Bishop, returning to the senior club after graduating from the Rebels, also gathered possessions across the backline.
After the game both clubs gathered at Club Sponsor, The Park View Hotel, for meals and after match drinks. We thank Wodonga Raiders Football Club for making the trip.
