11 Members of the Ballarat FNC are supporting Junior Parent, Jimmy Waight, in riding 520km from Swan Hill to Port Fairy over two days on March 27-28.
Jim, husband to Torie, and father to Charlotte 17, Tillie 15, and Harry 12, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma (a form of blood cancer) in November 2019. Since that time he has undergone eight cycles of chemotherapy, with treatment continuing.
Even though still receiving treatment, Jim is also participating in the ride.
Our team have been training hard since September last year. Early morning rides finished with coffee at the Arch View Cafe, have our team ready to tackle the journey.Jim Waight
11 of the riders are either currently directly involved with the BFNC, or are past players / committee people. Supporting Jim on the ride are Mark Verberne, Scott Petrie, Jed Manley, Isaac Manley, Aaron Brennan, Jamey Coles, Matthew Sheehan, John Carr, Travis Hoyle, Stuart Birkin, and Damian Larkin.
Club President, Karl Drever, this week joined the team for their post ride coffee offering words of wisdom, a bit of humour and BFNC support.
I encourage all of our members and supports to get behind Jim and his team. The club is inspired by Jims fighting attitude, and proud that the team are all BFNC members. We are all touched by Cancer in someway, so by making a donation or buying a raffle ticket we are helping find better ways to treat the disease.Karl Drever, BFNC President.
Jim and the team are aiming to raise over $30,000 for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute (FECRI). You can support their cause by donating or buying a ticket/s in their raffle with 100% of funds raised going to FECRI. Links can be found below.
