Families in Ballarat will be able to rely on great local sporting facilities, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to deliver $3.7 million to transform Alfredton Recreation Reserve.
Juliana Addison, Labor candidate for Wendouree, made the announcement today at Alfredton Recreation Reserve in front of members of the Alfredton community.
Juliana has a strong connection with the community, having grown up in Alfredton with fond memories of Primary School at St Thomas More and cycling the streets early morning delivering newspapers for the local milk bar.
“With so many young families choosing to live in Alfredton and get involved in local sport, it’s fantastic that Labor will deliver the word class facilities our young athletes deserve.”
– Juliana Addison, Labor candidate for Wendouree.
Record levels of participation and a growing number of teams mean an upgrade is desperately needed for the Alfredton Sporting Precinct. There are now over a thousand juniors playing sport across football, rugby, netball and cricket, with numbers growing every season.
Labor will deliver upgrades to the outdated cricket nets, team meeting and social rooms and the outdoor undercover viewing area and decking.
Improvements will also be made to provide extra parking and storage space for clubs to keep their equipment safe, precinct fencing and a new digital scoreboard – boosting the game day experience for players, coaches and fans.”
“And with more women and girls kicking and shooting goals – we’re making sure our female changing facilities are up to scratch right here in Alfredton.”
In just three short years, 175 women and girls have signed up to play football and netball alone, creating 3 new junior football teams and 1 senior team.
While more females are getting involved in local sport than ever before, many facilities were built in a bygone era where change rooms for females were in poor condition or in many cases didn’t exist.
If elected, Labor will change that and level the playing field – because every player deserves equal access to equal facilities.
Labor will help build new female-friendly facilities at Alfredton Reserve, meaning women and girls will no longer have to change in the nearby public toilets.
A bigger, better Alfredton Sporting Precinct will benefit the Alfredton Sports & Community Club, The Ballarat Football Netball Club, The Ballarat Redan Cricket Club, The Ballarat Memorial Sports Bowling Club as well as other local schools and community groups that use the reserve.
Labor is the only party to commit this vital funding. So whether you’re in the Wendouree or Buninyong electorate, the Board of the Ballarat Football Netball Club urges everyone to support this announcement with your vote on Saturday 24 November.
– Craig Lightfoot, Acting President, Ballarat Football Netball Club.
